General

What is Any One Will Do?

A free tool for making random decisions. Use it to pick a random name from a list, or split a group of people into teams. It runs entirely in your browser — no account, no sign-up, no server.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free. No ads, no paywalled features, no catch.

Do I need an account?

No. There's nothing to sign up for. Open the app, add your names, and go.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The app is designed to work on phones and tablets, including full-screen mode for displaying results to a group.

Privacy & Data

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything you enter — names, sessions, settings — is stored only in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device and we have no way to see it.

Do you track me?

We use two privacy-focused analytics tools (Plausible and Umami) to understand how the app is used in aggregate — things like page visits and which features are popular. Neither uses cookies, tracks you across sites, or collects any personally identifiable information.

Can someone else see my lists?

No. Sessions are stored locally on your device. Even if you share a session link with someone, they'll open an empty session on their end — your data doesn't travel with the URL.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Your sessions will be deleted. Since everything is stored locally, clearing your browser storage removes it permanently. There's no cloud backup to restore from.

How it works

Is the randomness truly random?

Yes. Any One Will Do uses your device's built-in secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues()), the same source browsers use for security-sensitive operations. It's not a simple pseudo-random algorithm — every pick and every shuffle draws from a cryptographically strong source.

Can I share my list with someone else?

Not in real time. Sessions live in your browser only, so another device opening your link will start with an empty session. The best way to share results is to use the Share or Download button after a pick or group draw.

What's the difference between the Wheel and Light Board?

Both randomly pick one entry — they just look different.

  • Wheel — a spinning colour wheel. Works best with up to ~12 entries where you want everything visible at once.
  • Light Board — a flashing grid of names. Handles larger lists well.

What's the difference between Draft Board and Cards?

Both randomly divide your group into teams — they differ in presentation.

  • Draft Board — reveals one group at a time, with entries dropping in one by one. Great for a dramatic reveal in front of an audience.
  • Cards — shows all groups as a grid of flippable cards. Good for smaller groups where you want the full picture at a glance.

Support & Business

How do you make money?

We don't. Any One Will Do is a tool we built because we wanted it, and we're happy to share it for free.

If it's been useful to you, sharing it with someone who'd get a kick out of it is more than enough. But if you're the kind of person who likes to tip the chef, we won't stop you.

Is there a paid version?
